One Precious Life
This is an unusual time for us all. These past 72 hours have been quite strange due to all the chaos that has been going on with the coronavirus. You can feel the fear creeping in amongst everyone. Austin’s SXSW canceled. Dallas Greenville St. Patrick’s parade canceled. Houston Rodeo canceled. NCAA tournaments canceled. NBA suspends seasons, Disney parks closing, schools closing, and much more pending. Almost 30 years of life and I have never experienced a time like this.
While I sit here inside my Dallas apartment looking out the window and staring at 5pm traffic, this situation really puts everything into perspective as to how precious the one life we have really is. It took me some time to truly understand that our health is our greatest asset. Years spent of being laser focused on the next goal, the next promotion, the next big move and it just now really hit me that we can lose our jobs, our homes, we can even lose all our money but if we lose our health, we’ve really lost it all. Without our health our chances to achieve our goals and dreams are slim to none.
At a time like this, we all have an obligation more than ever before to invest into our health by creating healthy habits. Starting with taking care of our bodies and being mindful of our actions for it may not only affect us but everyone around us. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued guidelines for “community mitigation strategies” to limit the spread of COVID-19. We are advised to practice social distancing to protect ourselves, the health of others, and to calm the virus down.
Meanwhile we are all creating better habits, I can’t help but be bothered by the fact that Asian descent children are being bullied, even though this virus has nothing to do with race. My heart goes out to all the children. People are being divided. Brick and mortar businesses are losing business. Millions of jobs are being affected. Many are stressed and unsure of what to do as they are being told to stay home. More than ever before now is the time when we all need to work together to protect each other. There are people who are vulnerable and have anxiety so let’s listen and be understanding even though we may not feel the same. Communicate more whether it be through FaceTime or social media, check up on your loved ones and be kind to strangers. Sending much love and positive energy to all the nurses while they work overtime to care of those who have special needs. We will get through this.
Let’s continue to spread positivity to people and do all that you can to be happy. Do not allow fear to takeover and forget what is important. Get up early to catch the sunrise and be outside to see the sunset. Go on a road trip. Take a bubble bath. Start a blog. Start a home based business. Read a book you normally wouldn’t read. Stay active. Call your mom.
As with all past outbreaks, this one will eventually come to an end. When this all ends… I do see a brighter future for us and the next generation. Healthy habits will be created and we will be able to live life the way we imagine with no restrictions. Take advantage of every opportunity and don’t take anything for granted. I’m so grateful to be alive. Stay safe everyone and take care of yourself and those around you.
XOXO
